Pic from Week 36

Forgot to post this two weeks ago when I had another ultrasound. Bit freaky, Rex looks like a little plasticine person... apparently it was 2.5 kilos at that time, and the doctor was happy with proportions & everything :) How exciting!

Week 38

Not long to go now! Rex has been very active for the last two days (enough to see it from the outside), & I've been peeing like a champion. I've also been getting strange twinges in my groin which is almost like .. hmmmm... you know when you're little and your friends or sisters are trying to tickle you but they try too hard & they press on a nerve & it just hurts instead? It's a bit like that, right where your leg meets the rest of your body. All of a sudden, like someone has poked a big finger in there & your knees go all rubbery for a second. Odd. All of this is leading me to believe that Rex won't wait for them to induce me at week 40. Of course I'm wishing away the last few days like everyone does, but there's definitely been a recent change. The obstetrician has said they won't let me go past 40 weeks, but since the baby isn't ginormous they won't need to induce me early. I'm looking forward to not testing my blood 4 times a day and having an injection twice a day. Also the whole food limitation thing. In fact, I'm dying for a laksa. That may be the first place we take the bub! That or chocolate. Actually I made an iced coffee today, with decaf instant coffee & only one teaspoon of sugar & it didn't make my sugar level go off the charts the way Moove or Dare does. Yum!

Week 34 and a half

Er, whoops! I've lost my preggo diary again. Never mind! So the injections are going well - I hardly feel them any more & haven't had a blood reading over the target in days. It's my last week at work & I'm still struggling to get this last assignment done for uni. How boring! There's like, a million things I'd rather be doing (like writing on here). I just had it pointed out that my last day is Friday the 13th. Cool! Gee it'd be good if Rex came early. I don't really think it will though. I have a physio appointment tomorrow & then an ultrasound next week. I'm quite pleased that I'll get to see the little possum on the screen again before I see it in real life. It's really just to check that it's not getting too fat around the belly. I've also made an appointment for a quote for the kitchen floor. Once that's in we can put the stove back & have an actual kitchen again. Awesome! I also inquired about a quote for a tree surgeon & a gutter clean out so hopefully they'll call me back soon. We have soooo many leaves piling up around our house it's quite ridiculous. No wonder we get so many spiders! Bring on Friday.

Week 34

Insulin shots started last night; the Gestational Diabetes diet wasn't doing what they'd hoped it would by itself. So as a supplement to the diet, I also need the shots twice a day. I'm a bit scared of needles so Moda's very generously offered to give them to me. 6 weeks times 7 days, times twice a day equals 84 injections. If the bub comes on time. Awesome. Anyway, I have a family wedding in Sydney next weekend and I have borrowed a lovely dress for it. I hope they don't mind too much if I don't stay for the whole thing. These weddings tend to go on until like, one in the morning and I just can't do it. I turn into a zombie by about 9pm.. See how we go.

Gestational Diabetes

D'oh.
So it turns out I have it. Darnit - just in time for Easter! So that means plenty of fruit, rice, pasta, nuts. Much less chocolate, sugar, salt.. actually it's really just a healthy diet in general. Which is probably something I should have started years ago anyway. First up I went for the initial blood test which came back at 7.8 which is right on the cutoff. So I went back for the second test where you have a high carb diet for 3 days, then fast for 12 hours. They give you a sugar drink & then take your blood every hour for 3 hours. Now I get to go into the hospital on Thursday & pick up a blood testing kit & have a briefing. Hopefully I won't have to give myself any injections. I'll have to prick my finger & test my blood every day though. Poor little Rex; this increases their chances of being an actual diabetic later on.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Rex gets hiccups all the time??
60.5kg.

Week 31

Had a contraction on the weekend, it's pretty cool that I can recognise them now. I don't feel anything, but my tummy goes all hard like a cricket ball for about 15 to 20 seconds. Then it goes back to normal. I would never have known if the midwife hadn't pointed it out at our last checkup.
We also went to see SuckerPunch which I think could possibly become a cult classic amongst teenaged gamer boys. It looks amazing but has a pretty weak story (saying that though, it starts off really well). It's also a shame that half the fight scenes seems to be shot with a really shaky camera. So they mustn't be choreographed too well.
The best bit of the weekend was a day trip to Sydney. I was really tired & so was Moda but we got to meet our new little niece. She's gorgeous, has lots of hair and didn't cry once. She just slept & had two feeds while we were there. I held her for a little while but then Rex kicked her through my belly and I felt a bit guilty so I gave her back. It didn't seem to wake her up though. Had a 3 hour blood test this morning for gestational diabetes. I found out why it's so nasty for the baby if you get gestational diabetes, because the placenta stops the insulin going to the baby so the baby's little pancreas has to work over time to get its blood sugar levels OK, and that kicks its system out of whack before it's even born. So yes you get a bigger fatter baby for the birth, but much worse than that is their pancreas might never work properly as a result. So that's why they need to find out & treat it, & that's why it goes away after the birth (because it's really more of a placenta-not-working-properly type thing). Interesting.
Bet I don't have it, but will let you know what the results were when I get them.
Also, Rex gets the hiccups all the time now! Got them right now in fact..

Almost week 30

Yay! All better. I only have a teeny cough now, and feel sooo much better thank goodness. I have a midwife appt this arvo, excited to hear Rex's heartbeat again. Funny how you only get 2 ultrasounds. Since the last one is at week 20 it feels like ages before you get to see the bub again. Last night I lay down on my left side & had a huge lump on my right side, I think it was the baby's head! I got up into the cat pose to try & let gravity swing it down back into place. Poor little bugger, it's running out of room in there. So I'll get the midwife to check it out & see that it's lying the way it's supposed to.
Had a hankering for veggies last night so made a lovely roast veggie & ham soup but I also put soup mix in it (barley & lentils & stuff). So it's really really thick. That's probably the bext thing about winter; the soups.
My sister in law is just about to pop, she's due on Saturday. Can't wait to meet her new little girl!

Week 29

Gross gross gross. Haven't been so sick since I quit smoking. I took last Friday off work because I had a sore throat and thought a day off would fix me up. I was even worse by Sunday, had a completely stuffed head & even though my nose was blocked it wouldn't stop running. it got chapped because I was wiping it so much - I couldn't blow it. My eyes were leaking too, just too much pressure in my head. So I took Monday off & went to the doctor. He told me that as long as I could still feel movements the baby was fine. Apparently all my antibodies go to protect Rex & leave me with no defenses. So he prescribed panadol and 3 more days bed rest & if I didn't get better he'd start thinking about antibiotics. Yeek. So I chucked up the first panadol & decided it must not agree with the bub so I'd have to brave it on my own. Have spent pretty close to 6 days in bed, thankfully my head is all better but now I have a disgusting cough. Hopefully that won't last long. Moral to the story: Don't get a cold while you're preggers!
On the upside, Rex has had the hiccups twice this week. Cute! : D
I thought it was a pulse in a weird new spot until I figured out what it must be. It was just too regular for normal kicks. Poor little blighter.

Week 27

I've just hit the 3rd trimester (yay!) & I've had some contractions already! They started last weekend but I really only noticed them on the weekend after my midwife pointed them out. I haven't had any since then so I guess things are settling down a bit. My new little niece is due in a month too, so it's all happening.
Also, we've been renovating the house again... I hope it's all ready for when Rex appears! I'm actually really excited about setting the room up with the cot and everything. Moda found a change table at Aldi for $50 so hopefully there are some left! They're apparently not on them for very long anyway and that's so cheap! I also bought a cheap maternity top from KMart that looked really pretty on the hanger. Silly me, I didn't try it on. The b**bs bit is just too big for me, even with the extra weight I haven't really changed cup size yet. I just fill out my b's a bit better than I used to! So I gave it to another preggo girlfriend & hopefully she has more luck than me. Bring on the voluptuousness!!

Week 25 and a half

So my belly is enormous and my belly button is almost flat. I've been having lots of wild, colourful dreams and some nights I sleep well, other nights not so much. I had a few kicks in the bladder over the weekend but thankfully that seems to have just been a temporary phase. It's just an uncomfortable sensation - a little shock that makes you want to pee right away, whether or not you need to. Other than feeling huge (and getting a number of comments that I'm looking quite big at the momen) I'm feeling fine. I'm probably eating a bit too much junk.. I bought fruit on the way home for some healthier snacking but it's all looking quite sad and expensive. Probably because of cyclones and floods and things. We're very busy at the moment, what with part-time school, full time work, house renovations and yoga once a week. Tomorrow is a glucose test (to see if I have gestational diabetes) and then a midwife appointment. I'm really looking forward to mid-May because school will be finishing up for the semester and I'll be going on maternity leave too. Moda is still nesting far more than I am. Cute!

Week 24

Where is the time going?? Moda's pregnancy app that he's set up on his phone says there's only 114 days to go :)
So, what's happened lately. We spent a fantastic last weekend in Tassie for a friend's birthday & I had a very emotional time, two bouts of embarrassing crying and couldn't stay in the controversial mutilation exhibit of the new Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) in Hobart. If you're not preggers I'd totally recommend that place - it was amazing. If you are, I'd avoid the bottom floor and certain parts of the top floor... And the life-sized patchwork woman titled "birth". It's all amazing work, but I really felt quite traumatised and drained at the end of it. I've had some trouble sleeping this week, Rex has been up doing aerobics at weird hours. I think I'll have to start having nana naps in the afternoons to catch up on sleep. I've always been a light sleeper & that doesn't seem to be doing me any favours right now. Gorged myself on pasta and chocolate last night, so I suppose that could possibly have had something to do with it. I want to eat smaller meals more frequently but everything tastes So Good at the moment. Oh yeah! Also, (I'm a bit distracted at the moment thoughts going every which way) I find I'm tearing up at love songs on the radio. I know not everyone considers "You make my dreams come true" by Hall and Oates a love song, but I think it's one of the most romantic songs of all time.

Week 21.

Moda brought chicken curry home for dinner tonight. Delicious!! But oh so spicy. I'm getting a few kicks now, Rex either loved it or hated it. If I eat dinner early (and also a small dinner) I don't seem to get heart burn. Makes sense!
I should say though, that (especially with the aircon in the office at work) I am feeling really good at the moment. Not really any nausea, bit more energy and being able to feel little movements in my belly. That last one is the best bit. I also like the way I look at the mo, my tummy is round; I'm obviously preggers, but my bum hasn't tripled in size like I expected it to. Unfortunately neither have my boobs but I guess you can't have everything ;)
Even Moda can feel a kick everynow & then when there's a big one.
The last few days have been insanely hot. We bought an evaporative cooler last night & it's great if you're sitting right in front of it. Otherwise it doesn't seem to do all that much. 15% off though, so can't really complain.
Before we bought it I was filling the bath up with cool water - not cold - and just getting in every 1/2 hour or so to try & cool down. Today we had a little storm so I'm hoping that gives us a break from the stifling heat for a few days.
Those poor Queenslanders are copping it again with Cyclone Yasi. First the floods & now this. And we just had massive bushfires in WA, I wonder if we're building up to something even bigger. What's left? Earthquake?
Hmmm.
......Zombies?
With this bump, if I crane my neck out Moda thinks I look like ET. Now that's glamorous.
56.5 in the nuddy.

Week 20 part 2

Had our 20 week ultrasound today! Baby Rex is fine. Phew! We saw the little heartbeat again, and watched it turning and tumbling around. Gorgeous. Also may turn out to be a karate expert like its Dad.. Check out the awesome high kick! Teehee!
I'm picking the results up at 4:30, but the doctor indicated that everything looked good as far as she could tell.
We asked her to keep the gender a surprise, but at the beginning we thought it was probably a boy, then after 20 mins we were sure it was a girl. Odds are pretty even I think!
So we are now officially half way. I got heart burn last night, which is new. I really need to start eating smaller meals. But food is just so delicious at the moment it's kind of difficult to cut back!
My boss has been very understanding and generous, and when I indicated that I'd like to go on leave at 8 months he was fine with that. So that's really only 3 and a 1/2 months away. Cool! Then i will get to set the house up & get it ready for the big arrival..

Week 20

Ultrasound tomorrow! I Can't Wait. Rex has been really active the last few days, it's lovely to be able to finally feel something in there.

A girlfriend sent me the following link to a website for breast-feeding modesty screens today: http://www.bebeaulait.com/ some very pretty ones in there! It does make me want to find some fabric that I like and make my own though, can't possibly be too hard :)

We've also received our order from the States - a car capsule and two brackets for it to fit into (one for each car). For some reason the pram order didn't go through so we'll have to try again. We wanted a pram that the capsule can click straight into. So we're looking at the Peg Perego ones. It's pretty scary how many different kinds there are..

We also bought our cot from Target during the end of year sales. We figured by the time the EoFY sales come along, we'll already have a bub so we might as well get one now. 1/2 price which is great, but unfortunately they only had painted ones left. I kinda like the plain wood ones better. Never mind, the kid will never remember what its cot looked like anyway :D
56 kilos.

Week 19

Only a week to go until our next ultrasound! Yay! So my hubby has been saying "labour is like running a marathon. You wouldn't run a marathon without training up for it would you?".. well he's right, but he's not very good at encouraging me to exercise. All he's managed to do so far is make me feel guilty for not exercising. I know it's just an excuse, but I think morning sickness really affected my ability to exercise and since I spewed again this week, I don't think my morning sickness is officially over. However, being the devoted good little woman that I am, I have just walked to Kingston & back on my lunch break. Far out it's hot out there! I brought a great sun hat but forgot about sunscreen & now my impulse is burning my armpits. And I'm sweaty anyway. Perhaps next week I should bring a change of clothes to walk in....
But good news is that Moda has felt the baby kick for the first time! That's exciting!
I'm still burping & hiccupping like a demon but at least I don't have heart burn.
Also! We found my pregnancy diary so I'm writing in that more regularly too.
I'm about 55 kilos now.

Week 18

Finally started feeling little kicks this week - just lovely. I was starting to get a bit nervous because the doctor & midwife were both saying "you'll feel them any day now" from week 16.
My tummy has popped out too; a few people asked me this week if I'm pregnant.
I'm putting on a bit of weight but not too much, I don't want to stress about it, but it's kind of hard not to especially considering that I'm hungry All The Time.
No weird cravings, just need food. Any kind of food. I'm still having a snack at 3am, if I miss it I get kind of nauseous.
Have also just found my pregnancy diary (YAY!) well actually hubby found it so I'll copy all of this into it & I'll try to keep up both the hard copy one & the online one.
We spent the last week on holiday in Bellingen. It was sooo hot - I had singing lessons in a stuffy old church & kept having to go outside & pour my water bottle over my head. Only had one dizzy spell so that's not happening much at all any more.
20 week ultrasound is all booked in - can't wait. I still don't think I want to find out the gender. Will see if I change my mind over the next fortnight..
55 kilos.

Week 16 and a half

Well, I've lost my lovely new pregnancy diary so I haven't written in it for about 3 weeks. Poo. Thought I'd better start making entries somewhere else so I can update it when I find it again.
My belly is starting to get a little bit bigger, which is great. I'm finally starting to look preggers. I've put on about 3 kilos so far. My digestion isn't fantastic - I'm burping & hiccuping a lot but that's about all. We had a 37 degree day here last week which really knocked me about. I think I was a bit dehydrated. I had a couple of dizzy spells & felt quite sick but I feel much better now. Had a rotten night's sleep last night even with my magic pregnant lady pillow but I don't know if I'm still recovering from the heat or it was just sleeplessness because I came back to work today after a whole week off.

Moda wants me to do some exercise since the labour at the end will be like running a marathon and I'll need to be fit for it... But I just don't feel like it at all!
I s'pose I should get into a routine now as it's only going to get harder. Oh yeah - I'm also peeing like a champion at the moment.

The last time I was actually physically sick was boxing day (twice). It's always after an event! Day after John Farnham concert, day after exam, day after xmas etc. I just need to take it a bit easy. From memory that's about 14 spews so far, but I'll need to double check my diary to make sure.. when I eventually find it!!

I have a doctor's appt coming up this week to get a referral for a 20 week ultrasound. I thought it was a gyp that I have to go in again (why can't I just take my last ultrasound results? They know I'm really pregnant!) so I asked my nurse friend and she said it's simply to keep the GP in the loop. There's no internal methods for hospitals or clinics to update the GPs on their patients so we keep having to make new appointments for them so they know what's going on. Hmmm. Seems like a sneaky way to get extra money from unnecessary consultations to me...
53 kilos.
